Report Shows Hispanics Plan to Increase Camping in 2017 – Will You Be One of Them?

Plan Your Next Camping Trip with Kampgrounds of America. As the number of active Hispanic campers continues to grow, and accommodations and amenities at campgrounds across the U.S. accentuate the experience for new and veteran campers alike, there is no better time to head outdoors for a camping adventure.

Among the 75 million active camper households in the U.S., Hispanics now represent 9 percent of all U.S. campers, and 13 percent of new campers in 2016. This is according to the 2017 North American Camping Report, an annual independent study supported by DiMe Summit sponsor Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA), the world’s largest network of family-friendly campgrounds.

In fact, report findings show Hispanic campers also plan to camp more in 2017, with 45 percent of Hispanic campers overall and 46 percent of Hispanic millennials indicating they would increase their camping trips this year.

What is it about the sights, sounds and experience of an extended stay within the outdoors? Hispanic campers say camping allows them to spend more time with friends and family, reduces stress and contributes to their emotional well-being. Sounds ideal, right?

Camping is also an ideal vacation for large families and friend groups. According to respondents of the survey, Hispanic campers (74 percent of all Hispanic households) continue to be the most likely to camp with family members of multiple generations, a trend that has risen in the last couple of years by 5 percentage points. When camping with friends and family, Hispanics report camping with an average group of 11 people.

If your family is ready to plan a camping trip this year, consider your options. Not only is camping a great way to immerse yourself within U.S. national or state parks – even Canadian Provincial Parks if you live near a border state – it’s a great way to experience a new destination as you can make your tent, RV or cabin campsite a home base for your explorations. KOA’s Deluxe Cabins have bathrooms and a full kitchen, and provides a turn-key option for new campers or campers with large, extended or multi-generational families to stay together under one roof.

KOA is proud to offer 503 open-to-the-public campgrounds throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our system includes different types of campgrounds to fit different camper needs, including those looking for an easy overnight stop along a longer journey or onsite resort-style amenities. We even offer a trip planner tool on our website that can help you locate the perfect KOA for your next camping adventure.

With a positive outlook for the 2017 camping season, there is no doubt that the tradition of escaping to the great outdoors is here to stay. Now get out there and start camping!
